Aveda Global Creative Director Antoinette Beenders created a graceful high performance ponytail for the Osklen Spring/Summer 2014 collection designed by Oskar Metsavaht and inspired by the cut, color, vibrancy and transparency of gemstones.

“When a gemstone is within the light, just one side of it shines at a time. We recreated that by making only one side of the hair super shiny,” said Beenders. “The collection also incorporates a lot of v-shapes within the necklines, which we recreated within the shape of the hair inside the back. It’s an excessively luxurious collection, so we would have liked the hair to be luxurious besides.”

According to Metsavaht, the Osklen aesthetic “represents the way of living of recent folks in a worldwide where the urban and the naturalistic, the worldwide and the local, the organic and the technological co-exist.” This season, Metsavaht utilized ecological silk, crafted through use of cocoons discarded by the commercial process and environmentally safe vegetable dyes.

GET THE LOOK:

STEP 1: Prep hair with Aveda Smooth Infusion Style-Prep Smoother and blow dry straight with a round brush.

STEP 2: Flat iron hair in sections, beginning behind the top and moving forward. Spray a mild coat of Aveda Air Control Hair Spray to every section before ironing to be sure a graceful, totally straight finish.

STEP 3: Part hair around the crown of the top, creating two sections. Gather the ground section right into a ponytail on the nape of the neck and secure with elastic.

STEP 4: Part the tip element of hair at the right side of the top at a slight diagonal, creating two sections of hair.

STEP 5: Separate a small portion of hair from the back of the proper section with a great tooth comb. Saturate each section with Aveda Control Force Firm Hold Hair Spray and comb back toward the nape of the neck, tight to the top. Layer each section over the former to create a graceful, smooth side.

STEP 6: Gather this section on the nape and cross excessive of the ponytail and clip.

STEP 7: Repeat the method at the left section, but coat each component to hair with Air Control Hair Spray for a softer, contrasting texture.

STEP 8: Gather the left section and cross over the ponytail. Release the best side, wrap ends under the ponytail and tie right into a knot. Secure with hair pins. Use a flat iron to flatten any loose ends and create a graceful, cohesive ponytail.

STEP 9: Using a colour brush, paint the best side of the hair with a generous layer of Brilliant Retexturing Gel to create a liquid effect.
