“Most curls don’t stay since the cuticle is sleek, exploding it with a texturizing iron creates lasting curl powder,” says Villa. “Allowing the curl to set properly after it’s unwound from the round brush can be crucial.”

STEP 1: Tap section randomly from root to ends with the Sam Villa Signature Series Texturizing iron.

STEP 2: Apply Redken spray starch 15 for control and warmth protection.

STEP 3: Roll section around a Sam Villa Signature Series Medium Oval Brush and direct blow dryer heat (hot setting) on brush for 30 seconds to bake within the curl pattern.

STEP 4: Unravel brush by pointing the top towards the top and unwinding over and under the section making a twist. Let the twist cool and set before fingering and applying a finishing spray.

  • HOW-TO: Create Voluminous, Photo-Ready Hair for a Photoshoot

Hair always seems to look smaller on camera. So how are you going to pump up your model’s hair? Try adding extensions for extra volume and length. Check out these steps on learn how to apply Hotheads Hair Extensions, offered by Hotheads stylist Victoria Casciola.

    PICTURE STEPS:

    HOW TO GET THE LOOK:

STEP 1: Take a bit that fits the density of the extension and keep a terribly clean part through the use of a Hotheads Rat Tail comb. Place the extension facing up below the part line having no tension from hair above and roll the hair directly to the adhesive tab.

STEP 2. Place the second one extension, with the adhesive facing down on top, of the primary cradling model’s hair in-between the 2 adhesive tabs. Press them together using your thumbs to secure them.

STEP 3: To start styling, first section hair right into a t-part. Start at bottom of the nape taking horizontal sections. Using a curling iron place iron at root and wrap hair across the rod setting each section as a barrel roll. Alternate each row with curls facing upwards after which next row downwards.

STEP 4: After you reach the edges ensure your curls are curled faraway from the face still alternating facing upwards and downwards.

STEP 5: Let the set quiet down while getting make-up done to succeed in maximum curl roughly about 20-half-hour.

STEP 6: After cooling, remove curls ranging from nape area to front.

STEP 7: Spray each section using Schwarzkopf Osis Elastic Hairspray to get a versatile, yet durable hold.

STEP 8: Now that each one the curls were let down, use a large tooth tail comb to split the curls while placing them strategically within the desired spot.

STEP 9: For the completion make sure that everything is placed within the exact desired area and spray the overall layer using Schwarzkopf Osis Freeze.

Recently, I received a photograph submission from Adeline Hutmacher, from Embellir Total Image Salon in Toledo, Ohio. To reach this look, here’s the stairs that Hutmacher took:

STEP 1: On pre-lightened hair take thin slices round the head and slightly tease each section before applyling color.

STEP 2: For pink, use 1/2 oz Pravana pastel pink + 1/2 oz magenta. For purple use 1/2 oz Pravana lavender + 1/3 oz pink. For blue, use 1 oz Pravana blissful blue.

STEP 3: Apply all of the colors on your selected sections (your preference). Use a dry detail brush to feather out the road of demarcation on each foil and fade out each color.

To create this look, Hutmacher says she was inspired by two things: “Pinterest! i used to be seeing a massive trend with both pastel colors and modern type of ombre hair,” she says. “i used to be also inspired by 4th of July. i like how fireworks preserve they burst off, they’ve a gorgeous melting effect as they may be fading away, almost like this style.” Hutmacher says the foremost challenging part about creating this look was capturing the melting effect and blending out any line of demarcation. “I needed to ensure the color pattern made sense without it looking overly ‘done.’”

  • HOW-TO: Men’s Cutting Technique for Soft Texture

click image to zoom Do you will have male clients that say they love the feel in their hair 10-14 days after it’s cut? Andrew Carruthers, Director of Education for Sam Villa shows you here tips on how to give those clients the feel they love the day they walk out of the salon. Watch the video inside.

    Reversible Blending Shear Over Comb

STEP 1: Take a bit of hair with a comb, teeth facing up.
STEP 2: Hold the Sam Villa Signature Series Reversible Blending Shear with the still blade at the bottom, over the brush.
STEP 3: Slowly move the brush round the shape of the top while opening and shutting the shears quickly.

A fair amount of hair could be removed with none hard lines, just soft texture. “The secret is to transport the brush slowly and the shears quickly – fast scissors, slow comb,” explains Carruthers.

Another trick Carruthers says, is using a comb color that contrasts with hair color for max visibility – use black combs on lighter hair and ivory combs on darker hair. It helps read the extension of the road you’re cutting.

The width of enamel also are important, fine teeth create more tension and are optimal when cutting precision sharp lines, wide teeth create less tension and are good for softer lines.

Watch the video below to determine this system in action.
