  • Preparing To Dye Your Hair

Before you dye your hair, there’s a lot of preparation beforehand. Here’s what you need to do, to make sure your hair is ready for your dye session.

Make sure to wash your hair 24 hours before dyeing, as this will allow natural oils in your hair to develop. This in turn will allow the dye to bind to your hair better. We recommend you avoid using conditioner as it eliminates the natural oils in your hair, which you need for the dye to set in easily. However, if you have really dry hair then you will need to prepare a week in advance of your dye session. Condition the hair every night for at least five minutes a week before you dye your hair. This will stop your hair drying out after you dye it.

If you follow these steps, your hair will be in the best condition for dyeing.

  • Trimming Your Bangs

Trimming your own bangs isn’t too difficult, all you need are sharp scissors and a steady hand of course!

Make sure to only cut your hair when it’s dry. The reason for this is, cutting your bangs when wet will mean they shrink when dry. Use a comb to section away the hair you DON’T want to cut and then divide your bangs in half using a styling comb. The main tip is not to cut your bangs any shorter than where the comb is in touch with your face. Snip the hair at a 45-degree-angle and work through it slowly. Avoid cutting straight across as it’s impossible to keep a straight line.

Both of these styles come in different forms and you may want to opt for a fade and side parting or perhaps a very tall quiff, and it all depends on your individual tastes.

A side parting can be an extremely formal style perfect for the young entrepreneur, and if you’re looking to paint a good picture in meetings or interviews when either of these styles will be appropriate.

  • MEN’S COLLECTION: Confident and funky by Vaughn Acord

A man’s grooming routine is frequently passed down from generation to generation—whether he’s guided by his father on the way to shave his neck, watched his uncle comb his hair, learned to wash under his nails before a date, he’ll carry those experiences with him throughout his life.

For Vaughn Acord, celebrity stylist, salon owner and founding father of the hot V76 by Vaughn, he learned of a “relaxed handsomeness” that comes from not trying too hard.

“As with fashion, hair changes from decade to decade, and a few looks never exit of fashion,” Acord says. “But a bob will always be a bob, whether it’s razor cut, broken, graduated or paired with bangs, it’s a bob. It’s as much as the stylist to interpret that classic shape.”

What has evolved during the last three decades, he says, is hair product. And, that’s what pushed Acord to launch V76 by Vaughn, a men’s line of specific, result-producing groomers designed to be, just like the bob, timeless.

“We’re all on a stage day-to-day by hook or by crook or another—whether it’s in a boardroom, in front of a camera, on a selling floor or in a law office,” Acord says. “Ultimately, what men want is confidence.”

In this collection, featured exclusively in MODERN SALON, Acord proves when a good cut is paired with confidence, any day may be “casual Friday.”

  • HOW-TO: Crimped and Curled Tri-Texture Looks by Rafe Hardy

It’s not uncommon to identify classic movie-star waves at the red carpet, but with detailing around the front as a visible focus. This blending of trends inspired Rafe Hardy, Artistic Creative Director for Sexy Hair, for this contemporary photoshoot where long-haired models emerged with intense texture offset by crimping or a braided headband.

With his fellow Sexy Hair stylist Nadirah Volpe, Hardy conceived these looks as a method for stylists to provide versatility to long-haired styles without cutting.

“Texture is a fun method to enhance longer hair and there are such a lot of stuff you can do besides a ponytail and your typical upstyle. When you get a respectable set in there and you’ve got that foundation, versatility becomes much easier. Clients can wear the hair such a lot of other ways. She will do first day, then expand the feel at the second day and at the third day, pin it up.”

One model received a pretend-edge of braids while the subsequent had tri-texture—crimp, curl and braids.
